Shetland Hen
Welcome to my new favorite blue layer! The Tappit/Tufted Shetland hen and cockbird. They are a landrace so you never know what color of beautiful chicks will hatch. They are decedents from South America and were bred and curated by the Ibister family in the Shetland Islands. Great feed converters and they deliver above average egg production for heritage birds. This is not an APA standard breed, just a fun option for people that want a great laying blue egger. Egg size gets pretty large into their 2nd and 3rd years.
Nature: Calm, quiet, docile, active foragers
Egg Color: Sky Blue
Eggs per year: 230 plus
Winter Hardy: yes
