Black Ameraucana

The Ameraucana was admitted into the Standard of Perfection in 1984 called the AOSB class. They were derived from the Araucana in the United States. We have been showing black and blue ameraucana for a number of years. Splash have were recently admitted but I prefer to show my big laid back black line as they are stunning with their beautiful green sheen. I find them to be tough and I love their shell color. Hens weigh 5.5 pounds and Males weigh 6.5 pounds. Some of my lines are very laid back and are huge so I have butchered them for the freezer with great success.

Ameraucana can tolerate a wide range of climates and are suited to the cold with their pea combs. They have lovely beards and muffs. I find them to be friendly, inquisitive and great foragers. Males are strong protectors of their flocks making sure everyone is alerted at any sign of danger. We also raise, chocolate, mauve, chocolate splash, bbs and isabel ameraucana.
