Buff Ducks

Exhibition Buff Ducks

In the 1800’s the Buff Orpington duck was developed by William Cook in Kent, England. The Buff Orpington were developed for their stunning feather color, egg and meat production. In 1914, the Buff were admitted into the American Standard of Perfection and they are part of the medium class. Drakes are 8 lbs and duck hens are 7 lbs. They have lovely buff or seal brown plumage. Blue or white feathers on a buff duck are a disqualification and likely mean that they are a cross.

We have been showing the buff for a few years and have learned a lot about breeding them properly. We find them to be very docile and fairly friendly. The meat is excellent and they gain weight quite quickly. They are calm and quite quiet. If you are looking for a quiet duck, I would recommend these. They love to free range. The duck hens sometimes go broody and they are good mothers.
