Blue Legbar

We have been working on a blue legbar project for the past several years. I am very happy with my results so far. Egg color is great and birds lay wonderfully.   If you are looking for Blue Legbar in Canada, Westerdale Farms has your birds! Currently the pen is set up with Crested Cream legbar males over Blue legbar females. So therefore, they will hatch 50% blue 50% Cream legbar.

We have had a few color varieties of Legbar over the years but are continuing to focus on Golden Crele, Crested Cream Legbar and Blue Legbar for the next few years. If you would like to add blue to your existing flock of Crele or Cream Legbar, simply breed one of our blue males over your line to instantly have blue lebar (50/50).

Some of our blue legbar hens are inspired from cream legbar so they are all blue body color. The other half are inspired from the crele legbar so they have more of the duckwing pattern and rust chests.  I couldn’t decide which ones I like better so I kept them all!  The males are lighter colored.  Decent egg layers that are great foragers. They are light to medium weight, auto-sexing and we have only ever had a few go broody over the years. Hens typically weigh around 5.5 pounds and males weigh around 7 pounds.   If you are looking for bright blue hatching eggs or chicks these are the sky blue eggs for you!

There is a proposed Standard of Perfection for the Legbar, but currently not accepted by the APA.
