Chocolate Orpington
Deep massive birds with beautiful chocolate brown plumage. I love their excellent temperament and mocha colored feathers. Hens can be broody and make great mothers. Males are protective and rarely aggressive. They are great free rangers and enjoy scratching around even in our cold Alberta Winters.
My genetics came from the USA from Ewe Crazy and Heirloom Orpingtons and also from Phoenix Farms in BC. I have continuously bred show quality Black Orpington into them from Rico Sebastianelli and Kris Skeels.
Orpingtons are dual purpose so you can expect a nice decent supply of eggs but they are also good for dressing. Hens weigh around 8 pounds and males weigh 10 pounds. My line matures a little slower, well into their first year they seem to weigh up to be dense girls. Chocolate color variety is not accepted in the SOP but we still try to breed SOP guidelines for the orpington.
