Chocolate Ameraucana
Our chocolate ameraucana were purchased from Perry Scholfield genetics who developed the chocolate project. For the last several seasons we have bred our exhibition black ameraucana into them to add some diversified genetics, improve size, muffs and beards. I am very happy with the results and have a large amount of hens for 2022. They lay a decent amount of sky blue eggs and they are quiet birds.
I find ameraucana to be tough and I love their shell color. Hens weigh 5.5 pounds and Males weigh 6.5 pounds. Some of my lines are very laid back and are huge so I have butchered them for the freezer with great success.
Ameraucana can tolerate a wide range of climates and are suited to the cold with their pea combs. They have lovely beards and muffs. I find them to be friendly, inquisitive and great foragers. Males are strong protectors of their flocks making sure everyone is alerted at any sign of danger. I have rarely had an ameraucana that was aggressive to our family. We also raise ameraucana in blue, black, splash, mottled and isabel.
Not only are the Chocolate Ameraucana gorgeous to look at they lay nice sky blue eggs which are a great addition to your rainbow egg basket.
