Ameraucana

Ameraucana Blue/Black and Splash

The Ameraucana was admitted into the Standard of Perfection in 1984 AOSB class.  They were derived from the Araucana in the United States. We have been showing black and blue ameraucana for a number of years. I find them to be tough and I love their shell color. Hens weigh 5.5 pounds and Males weigh 6.5 pounds. Some of my lines are very laid back and are huge so I have butchered them for the freezer with great success.

Ameraucana can tolerate a wide range of climates and are suited to the cold with their pea combs. They have lovely beards and muffs. I find them to be friendly, inquisitive and great foragers. Males are strong protectors of their flocks making sure everyone is alerted at any sign of danger. We also raise, chocolate, mottled and isabel ameraucana.

Nature: Friendly, calm depending on the lines

Egg Color:  blue or blue green

Eggs per year: 250

Winter Hardy: Pea combs, and they love being outside during the winter.
